🚢 A lifejacket shall be provided for every person on board the ship. All manned watch stations, such as navigation bridge and engine control room, as well as remotely located survival craft stations shall be provided with lifejackets. Lifejackets shall be placed in readily accessible locations, plainly indicated by appropriate IMO symbols.
✅ An approved lifejacket is constructed in such a way that it can be easily donned within one minute. It allows the wearer to jump into the water from height without injury and without dislodging or damaging the lifejacket.
❗️ A lifejacket maintains its buoyancy even if punctured or ripped. It shall have sufficient stability and buoyancy to turn the body of an exhausted or unconscious face-down person in a face-up position, with the body inclined backwards and the mouth lifted and clear of the water.
💡Each lifejacket is fitted with a self-igniting light of white colour and a whistle secured by a lanyard. Retro-reflective material is used to facilitate discovery of a person in the water. Grab loop (lifting loop) is fitted to help the casualty out of the water and a buddy line – to get secured to another person wearing a lifejacket.
