Hazard Identification (HAZID)

HAZID is a process used to identify potential hazards during LNG bunkering operations.

Its main objectives are to identify hazards, assess their possible consequences, evaluate existing safeguards, and recommend measures to reduce risks.

The HAZID process involves a multidisciplinary team that identifies hazards by using guide words.

After the hazards have been identified, each hazard is ranked according to its potential impact and the effectiveness of the existing safeguards.

The bunkering operation is divided into smaller stages — such as preparation, connection, inerting, cooling down, transfer, and disconnection — to ensure that hazards are systematically identified and addressed at every stage of the process.
